Responding with Love: When Someone Says Kids Need a Mom and Dad

As a queer single parent, I’ve often been met with the comment, "Every child needs a mother and a father." It can sting, especially when you know the love and care you pour into your child every day. I remind myself—and others—that what truly matters is a nurturing, supportive environment. My child is surrounded by people who love them deeply, even if our family doesn’t fit the traditional mold.
