I Hiked Into the Dark and Didn’t Find Clarity
There’s a tunnel outside Kanab called Belly of the Dragon. It’s not long—just a carved-out drainage under the highway, cold and echoing. Today, I walked through it alone. The light behind me faded fast, and for a minute, I couldn’t see my own hands.
I thought I’d feel something—adventure, awe, maybe even fear. But mostly, I just felt the weight of my own footsteps, the silence pressing in. I took a photo at the end, the kind you never post because it doesn’t look like much. Sometimes you go somewhere hoping to come out changed. Sometimes you just come out the other side, same as before.
