Soft Doesn’t Always Mean Clean
I used to think a soft makeup look meant “clean.” But lately, I’ve realized: soft ≠ clean, and color harmony ≠ using the same shades.
Take Korean-style makeup. It often looks subtle, but the blurred, dreamy vibe actually reduces clarity. In contrast, a bold contour or rich lip—when done right—can look sharp, sculpted, and yes, clean.
Same with Japanese editorial looks. They’re high on atmosphere, low on definition. That’s intentional. But clarity? Not always the goal.
And here’s where I’ve messed up: trying so hard to match tones that I lose dimension. Soft washes of color should still have structure. Layering, contrast, intention.
Harmony isn’t uniformity. “Aesthetic” isn’t always flattering.
Sometimes, clean beauty means letting your features cut through the fog—not blend into it.
