Remembering Caroline Klein: A Life Lived to the Fullest
The sports world lost a bright and courageous voice this week—Caroline Klein, Chief Communications Officer for the Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth, has passed away at age 40 after a battle with cancer.
Diagnosed in August 2023, Klein refused to define herself by her illness. Instead, she viewed her diagnosis as a “license to live.” In a poignant final message shared by her family, she wrote:
“I want everyone to remember me for the way I lived, not the way I died ... Keep asking yourself ‘why not?’ and ‘why wait?’ … See every day as a license to LIVE, not just pass the time.”
Her impact was profound—she launched Jazz+, produced the 50th-anniversary Jazz documentary, played a key role in bringing the NHL’s Utah Mammoth to life, and earned recognition on Sports Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40.”
