I’ve been dating my boyfriend for almost two years, and almost every time we go out, he pays. At first, I thought it was sweet, but lately, I’ve started feeling a little uneasy. It’s not about the money—it’s about feeling like I’m always on the receiving end, without a real chance to contribute equally.
Last week, I suggested paying for once, and he immediately said, “Don’t bother, I got it.” I felt awkward and, honestly, a little frustrated. I know he means well, but after a while, this constant dynamic makes me feel both protected and restricted at the same time.
