Nature Was Stunning. I Felt Small Anyway.

I thought standing in front of something vast—mountains, forests, a sky that won’t fit in a photo—would make me feel bigger. Instead, I felt like a dot. Everyone talks about awe, but no one warns you about the loneliness that comes with it. The kind that creeps in when you realize the world doesn’t care if you’re here or not. I took a hundred photos, none of them right. I kept thinking: if I could just capture it, maybe I’d finally feel part of it. But I was always just passing through.
