Just found out our breaker has been powering neighbor’s garage for decades. Landlord nextdoor says it’s not their problem. What now?

We bought half of a 100-year-old duplex last year. Everything was great until about two months after moving in, when I noticed a few breakers in our panel didn’t power anything in our unit. I flipped them off. And our neighbors showed up wondering why their garage had no electricity. Turns out, one of their breakers is in our panel and has been powering their garage for who knows how many years Even worse, their wiring is undersized for the breaker, so it’s not even safe. Thankfully the tenants only use it for the garage door and charging a leaf blower battery. So, at that moment, and not to brag, I generously left it on while I texted their landlord. No response. Today they finally replied after I brought it up again. They said they were told it’s been like this for so long that they don’t have to change it, and that she doesn’t have the money right now. Basically, she’s fine with us continuing to supply their power indefinitely. I’d like to keep a good relationship with the neighbors, but this has got to be total bullshit, right? It just feels wrong and potentially dangerous. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? #HomeOwnership #ElectricianLife #DuplexLiving #LandlordIssues #NeighborDrama #NeighborProblems #Home

My neighbors' kids keep jumping on my fence to get on the roof of my garage

My neighbor's kids and all their friends have kept jumping on my fence to get on the roof of my garage. And because of all this jumping, my fence is actually starting to sag really badly. It's becoming super hard to open my gate now. Not gonna call the police on kids. But their mom, oh my goodness, she just doesn't seem to care at all. I actually saw her watching them do it two nights ago and she didn't even say anything. I've yelled at them twice to get off the roof and they do, immediately, then they just take off running. My biggest worry is honestly liability. What if one of them gets seriously injured jumping around up there? I really do not want to be responsible for that. And I definitely don't want my gate to keep getting worse and worse. I was thinking about putting something sticky or slimy on top of the fence to deter them 😠 But then I'm worried about attracting bugs or making a bigger mess. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? #NeighborProblems #HelpNeeded #ParentingFails #BoundaryIssues #NeighborhoodDrama #SeekingAdvice

Been here less than a week and the neighbors already hate me?? 😓

Moved into a new place last weekend. Since there’s only one parking spot at the house, I told my roommate to take it and started parking my car at a public park right across the street. Well, apparently that decision made me public enemy. First it was spit on my window. Then both my side mirrors were shoved in — scratched, but not broken. And today some gunk all over the side of my car. I don’t have any enemies, no angry exes, and literally no one even knows I live here yet. The only “statement” on my car is a couple of dumb bumper stickers (nothing political, just silly stuff). So I’m really out here wondering what exactly I did to piss someone off this fast. 😠😮‍💨 #NeighborProblems #CarDrama #WhatDidIDoWrong #Cars

My Neighbor's Tree is a Catastrophic Ticking Time Bomb Leaning on My House. What can I do?

my neighbor's massive, downed tree has crashed into my yard, now precariously propped up and only held from total collapse by my own healthy tree. It's a terrifying, swaying sword of Damocles over my property, and my neighbor simply refuses to act. For months, I've exhausted every civilized avenue. I’ve repeatedly knocked on her door (to no answer), called and texted numbers she's used before, left desperate handwritten notes on her mailbox, and even sent a certified letter explicitly warning her of the imminent danger her tree poses to both our properties. After all this, silence. Absolute, chilling silence from her end, while that behemoth of a tree looms. I've called every single public resource. The response is always the same: a bureaucratic shrug. "It's privately owned," "It's not fully on the ground yet," "You're on your own." It's infuriating! My home, my family's safety, is quite literally hanging by a thread, dependent on my own tree's strength. Is an attorney truly my only hope to avert this potential catastrophe? I'm desperate for options beyond watching and waiting for disaster!! #TreeDanger #NeighborNightmare #LegalAdviceNeeded #CharlotteNC #HomeownerBeware #EmergencyHelp #PropertyDispute #NeighborDrama #NeighborProblems #Safety

When Noisy Neighbors Disrupt Family Life: How Do You Cope?

Lately, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by our new neighbors and their three young kids. They moved in a few weeks ago, but their house is still unfinished—no carpets, constant council visits, and the noise echoes through our walls. I have four kids myself, including a toddler and a son with severe autism, so I understand how tough moving can be. But their children are outside yelling late at night, climbing fences, and slamming doors while their mom seems distracted and the dad is rarely around. My husband tried to talk to them, but the language barrier made it tough. Now my kids’ routines are all over the place, and my patience is wearing thin. Am I being too sensitive, or would anyone else feel the same? Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?
