Timothy Harper+FollowYour Backpack Looks Like a MOBILE DUMPSTER!I just witnessed the most RIDICULOUS packing disaster on the trail today, and I’m still recovering from secondhand embarrassment. This person’s backpack was so overstuffed it looked like they were moving apartments, not going on a day hike! 🎒 THE WALKING DISASTER I SAW: Picture this monstrosity: Backpack bulging like it’s about to explode (seriously, the zippers were CRYING) Random crap dangling everywhere - carabiners, water bottles, camp chairs clipped to the outside Uneven weight distribution making them walk like a drunk penguin 😡 WHAT WAS IN THIS MOBILE GARAGE SALE: 4 different jackets (for every possible weather scenario) Enough snacks to feed a small village 4 water bottles (plus a hydration bladder) Camp chair “for resting” (there are literally rocks everywhere!) 🤦♂️ THE PREDICTABLE OUTCOME: Exhausted after 1 mile because they’re carrying 40+ pounds Constant stops to readjust and repack Complaining about back pain (NO KIDDING!) Slowing down their entire group ⚖️ PACK LIKE YOU HAVE A BRAIN: Day Hike Essentials ONLY: Water (1 liter per 2 hours of hiking) Snacks (not a 7-course meal) First aid basics (band-aids, not a field hospital) Weather layer (ONE extra jacket max) Map/GPS and headlamp Weight Rule: If you can’t comfortably wear it for 30 minutes at home, it’s TOO HEAVY! Stop packing your fears and start packing smart! #Hiking #PackSmart20Share
