rome trip chaos: visiting during the papal conclave
We finally made it to Rome after months of planning, and wouldn’t you know it—the Pope passes away right before we land. The city is buzzing, and the cardinals are gathering to pick the next Pope. I’m not Catholic, but I do love a good slice of history, so this is wild timing. My friend and I had our hearts set on seeing the Vatican, but now I’m picturing crowds so thick you can’t even see your own feet, let alone the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
I can’t help but wonder if the rest of Rome is going to be just as packed. I was really looking forward to wandering through the Colosseum and tossing a coin in the Trevi Fountain, but now I’m worried it’ll be wall-to-wall people everywhere. Part of me is excited to witness history, but the other part is dreading elbowing my way through endless lines. Has anyone else ended up in Rome during a conclave? Did you find the crowds unbearable, or was it just the Vatican that turned into a madhouse? I’m starting to think our dream trip might turn into a real test of patience. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I’d love to hear if anyone else has survived this kind of Roman chaos.
