Here’s what I listen for: • Throat clearing or a voice that suddenly sounds weird (creaky, high-pitched, or loud) • Awkward pauses or slow answers—like they’re making up a story on the spot • Tons of filler words: “um,” “well,” “like” (count ‘em!) • Vague or super short answers—no details, no names • Overly defensive or trying to change the subject FAST • Laughing things off or dodging yes/no questions Trust your gut! If something feels off, it probably is. I always try to stay calm and ask direct questions.
