Favorite Dover race/moment?
With Dover now officially losing its last points race, I’ve been looking back on some of the unforgettable races and moments there, while working through the sadness and frustration.
My favourites are:
2006 fall race: Jeff Burton, my favourite driver, snaps a five-year winless streak after a fierce battle with his good friend and former teammate Matt Kenseth.
2016 spring race: Arguably the best Dover race ever from start to finish—constant lead changes, huge wrecks, and Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott nearly pulling off their first wins while hounding Kenseth, who somehow held them off.
2004 spring race: Total chaos with several massive wrecks, but Mark Martin comes out on top. Meanwhile, an unsponsored Jeff Burton avoids the carnage and sneaks home in 4th.
2008 fall race finish: The Roush cars put on a lap-after-lap slugfest, with Greg Biffle ultimately coming out ahead.
2009 spring race finish: Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart go toe-to-toe in the closing laps, with Jimmie getting the better of him.
