💀 Nightmare Fuel from 2,000 Meters Deep

Meet the viperfish—possibly the stuff of your next bad dream. With jaws like a medieval torture device and razor-sharp fangs longer than its own head, this deep-sea predator looks like it swam straight out of a horror movie. Why the nightmare vibes? It’s all about survival. Viperfish live in the pitch-black depths of the ocean, anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000 meters down. Out there, it’s eat or be invisible—and those terrifying teeth help it do both. Want to see one in real life (well… dead)? Head to Reykjavik, Iceland for the annual Sjómannadagur Sea Festival each June. Local fishermen sometimes bring up bizarre deep-sea creatures caught in their nets—like fangtooths, gulper eels, anglerfish… and yes, the dreaded viperfish.
