A lot of people say, “I don’t hate them. I just dislike them.”
But Scripture does not only judge the word we use. It exposes the fruit coming from the heart.
Jesus and the apostles warned that hatred is not just physical murder. Hatred is the heart posture that wants another person diminished, punished, rejected, silenced, shamed, or hurt.
So if “dislike” turns into harsh words, cruelty, avoidance, bitterness, mockery, slander, or treating someone like they have no value, then it is no longer harmless dislike. It has become the kind of heart condition Scripture warns about.
We may not call it hate, but if it produces the fruit of hate, we need to let Jesus cleanse it.
