✨ I Took Off My Mask After 7 Years—And The World Didn’t End (It Actually Got Lighter) ✨
I went outside without makeup today—for the first time in seven years. I’m 19 now, but since I was 12, I’d never been seen without it. I wore makeup to class, the gym, even to take out the trash. My acne started at 13 and never let up. It got to the point where I’d avoid eye contact, even with my own family, unless I had foundation on.
But this summer, I finally saw a dermatologist. It’s not perfect—there’s still scarring and some flare-ups—but it’s healing. More importantly, I’m healing. Today, I walked into class bare-faced. No concealer. No mascara. No shield. Just me.
And guess what? No one stared. No one whispered. And for the first time, I wasn’t obsessively checking mirrors or fixing smudges. I felt light. I felt human. I felt...free.
I used to think makeup gave me confidence. Now I know confidence comes when you stop hiding from yourself.
This post isn’t to bash makeup (I still love it!). But to anyone struggling: you’re not alone. Your skin does not define your worth.
