Why Is It So Hard to Just Drive Considerately?
Why do so many drivers go out of their way to inconvenience others? Is it poor manners, or just plain selfishness? I’m honestly tired of asking.
Today I drove less than 20 kilometers in the city, and it still felt like a battlefield. First, a car tailgated me while I was accelerating and then suddenly cut in from the right—I had to brake hard to avoid a collision. Then, just as I was about to overtake a tanker truck, it drifted into my lane without a signal. Again, I hit the brakes. A third driver tried to turn right across my straight path even though I’d already passed—and if I hadn’t slowed down, we would’ve crashed. The final straw was a semi-truck randomly parked in the right lane near a light. I signaled early to change lanes, but the driver behind me sped up and honked, just to block me.
I always try not to bother others on the road. If I make a mistake, I feel bad and correct it. But it seems like more and more people just don’t care. That’s what makes driving so frustrating these days.
Have you noticed this too? What’s the most disrespectful thing you’ve seen on the road?
