A biennial that stretches across Sharjah’s cityscape and desert towns is about to unfold, gathering more than 140 artists from around the globe. The 2025 Sharjah Biennial, themed “to carry,” isn’t just about moving artworks—it’s about the weight of memory, migration, and identity that art can hold.
Curated by a team of five, this edition invites artists to unpack what societies and individuals have borne through history, whether it’s the invisible burdens of collective memory or the tangible traces of migration. Indigenous voices take center stage, echoing a global shift seen at the Venice Biennale, and reminding audiences that the stories carried by art are as diverse as the artists themselves.
