The Hike I Built My Childhood Around

I spent years picturing Delicate Arch—postcards, screensavers, that one textbook photo. Today I finally stood under it. The sky was heavy, the crowd quieter than I expected. I waited for the arch to empty out, but it never really did. I thought crossing this off would feel like closure. Instead, it was just me, a little older, watching strangers take turns pretending they’d arrived alone. I snapped a photo I’ll probably never post.
