Mondo Duplantis Triumphs as Laureus World Sportsman of the Year 🏅✨
Mondo Duplantis, the reigning world and Olympic pole vault champion, has been named the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year. The 25-year-old Swede received the accolade at a star-studded ceremony in Madrid, where the greatest athletes of the past 12 months and the 21st Century gathered.
This marks Duplantis's first Laureus award, though he has been nominated for the past three years. He joins an elite group, becoming only the second track-and-field athlete to win this prestigious honor, following in the footsteps of four-time winner Usain Bolt.
Duplantis had an extraordinary 2024 season, winning his second world indoor title in Glasgow, followed by Olympic gold in Paris with a world record clearance, and then breaking his own record at the Silesia Diamond League meeting.
“I am incredibly honored to have won my first Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award," Duplantis said, receiving his award from last year’s winner, Novak Djokovic. "The Laureus Awards are the ultimate awards that we athletes want to win."
