Earth Spun Faster. I Couldn’t Keep Up

I watched the news about the shortest day on record, and all I could think was: even the planet is rushing, spinning out of control, shaving off milliseconds like they matter. I haven’t slept through a night in months. My experiments fail quietly, like the clock skipping seconds I never get back. The atomic clocks keep perfect time. I keep losing it. I keep rerunning protocols, hoping for a result that makes sense, but everything feels off by just enough to notice. My PI says, "That’s science," but it sounds like an excuse for how much this costs me. Nobody expected the Earth to speed up. Nobody expected me to last this long, either.
