Packing Lists Don’t Save You From Overpacking
I spent two hours making the perfect packing list. Categories, subcategories, weather checks, even a color-coded spreadsheet. I thought I was being smart—organized, even frugal. But when I finally zipped my suitcase, it barely closed.
I brought three books for a two-night trip. Two pairs of shoes I never wore. Shampoo, conditioner, and a backup travel-size set. I still forgot my toothbrush.
The list was supposed to save me from stress. Instead, it made me obsess over every possible scenario. I packed for a version of myself that doesn’t exist—someone who reads every night, who works out on vacation, who needs three different chargers.
I wish I’d just trusted myself to bring less. Next time, I’m leaving the list—and half my stuff—at home.
