Steak Frites in Tokyo: My Accidental Comfort Food
I didn’t expect to find myself eating steak frites in the middle of Tokyo, but here we are. The plan was sushi, obviously. But after a week of raw fish, my brain started craving something familiar, something with fries. So I wandered into a French brasserie tucked between neon signs and ramen joints.
Honestly, I felt like a fraud ordering steak frites in Japan, but the universe didn’t care. The steak was perfectly rare, the fries crisp, and the tiny carafe of red wine made me forget how far I was from home. Maybe it’s cliché to say food is comfort, but sitting there, surrounded by strangers speaking a language I barely understood, I felt oddly grounded.
Travel is supposed to be about new experiences, but sometimes, you just need a plate of steak and fries to remind you who you are. And that’s okay.
