I Moved to Tajikistan on a Drunken Whim
I didn’t plan to end up here. One too many drinks, a half-joking flight search, and suddenly I was in Dushanbe, blinking at Cyrillic signs and the kind of mountains that make you feel like a typo in the landscape.
I thought I’d regret it. I thought I’d be lonely, or scared, or at least bored. But the truth is, Tajikistan is quieter than I expected, and so am I. I like the way the city slows down after dark, the way strangers nod instead of smile, the way I can disappear in a crowd that doesn’t care who I was before.
Sometimes I miss home. Mostly, I don’t. I’m not sure if that’s growth or just getting used to being lost.
