Visited Union City for food today and tried Din Ding Dumpling House, a very popular noodle shop with long lines. Was lucky to get a seat since all the groups ahead were big parties and us being a duo got our names jumped up the waiting list! Ordered a few dishes based on Yelp recommendations: Crab Xiao Long Bao, Original Xiao Long Bao, Braised Chestnut Big Chicken Plate Broad Noodles, Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs, and Large Pea Shoots! Let's talk about the dishes:
* Crab Xiao Long Bao ($15.95/8pc) and Original Xiao Long Bao ($11.95/8pc)! Both are a bit sweet with a thick skin and plenty of meat and soup inside. Personally, I prefer the Crab Xiao Long Bao. Honestly, I don't taste the crab flavor, but the meat filling with shredded carrots gives it a very fresh and sweet taste! Compared to the Original Xiao Long Bao, which is a bit greasy. I don't usually recommend crab Xiao Long Bao, but if you're ordering Xiao Long Bao here, it's worth a try as it's better than the original one!
* Braised Chestnut Big Chicken Plate Broad Noodles, $18.95! There are not enough chestnuts; most of the chicken is bone and scraps. Let's not count these two ingredients; they only slightly enhance the flavor. The best part is the broad noodles, thin as liangpi (a type of Chinese noodle), smooth yet chewy! Matches well with the braised sauce, so tasty!
* Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs, $10.95! The meat portion is really small, only ten small ribs? The flavor is too sweet, didn't taste the vinegar. The ribs are soft and easy to chew, good as a side dish to nibble on.
* Large Pea Shoots, $20.95! The vegetables are fresh and generously portioned, a refreshing dish to clean the palate, 🉑️!
Conclusion: Overall good dining experience, the noodles stand out and leave a stronger impression than the stir-fried dishes! The place is busy, the service is a bit rushed. I still had a dumpling left, and the server took away my bowl and chopsticks [laugh cry emoji]! Bonus, I found out there are a lot of other spots in the same plaza: Kim's Seafood Port, Clay Pot Place, Happy Sheep, FuRongXuan, HuaXi Wang etc., will try them slowly!
