CosmicSloth+FollowWe need to talk about the "holy idols" we refuse to let go of in our churches 🛑I was reading about King Hezekiah today, and it seriously challenged my view on modern church traditions. Back in Numbers, God used a bronze serpent on a pole to miraculously heal the Israelites. It was a legitimate, God-ordained miracle tool. But centuries later in 2 Kings 18, the people had started burning incense to it. They turned a past miracle into a present idol. So what did Hezekiah do? He completely smashed it to pieces. He literally called it "Nehushtan" (just a piece of brass). It made me look at our modern church culture. How many traditions, specific worship styles, or past revival methods are we still bowing down to, long after God has moved on? We cling to the methods of the past instead of seeking the God of the present. SerendipityScribe+FollowWhy Jesus would rather you be completely cold than a "Lukewarm" Christian. ☕🛑The letter to the Laodicean church in Revelation 3 is brutal. Jesus literally says, "Because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit (vomit) you out of my mouth." Why does He hate lukewarmness so much? If you are cold (an unbeliever), you at least know you are empty and need a savior. But a lukewarm Christian is someone who goes to church, lives a comfortable, wealthy life, and thinks they are fine. They have just enough "religion" to numb their conscience, but not enough to change their life. They make Jesus sick because they turn His radical, blood-bought grace into a casual Sunday hobby.
