Breaking Barriers: Women Built Their Own Bank
Before 1974, it was legal for a woman to work, earn her own paycheck, and still be denied a credit card without a man’s signature. Even when laws changed, many banks refused to treat women as independent financial customers. The system was stacked against them, limiting access to loans, credit, and basic financial autonomy.
In response, eight visionary women in Denver decided enough was enough. Pooling $1,000 each, they did something extraordinary—they founded their own bank. This was more than a business; it was a statement. They created a financial institution where women could control their money, make loans, and access credit freely, defying decades of systemic discrimination.
Their bold action didn’t just empower themselves—it inspired generations of women to claim economic independence. By building a bank, they proved that when the rules don’t allow change, courageous people make their own path.
