Joseph Norris+FollowQuick Guide: Essential Wood Drying for Woodworking‼️Raw wood is full of moisture and will warp if not dried. To prevent cracks and distortion in your projects, dry wood thoroughly before use. It's simple, inexpensive, but requires patience! Here’s how: 1️⃣ Measure Moisture: Get a moisture meter. Aim for 6-7% moisture content for woodworking projects. 2️⃣ Prep & Stack: Lay 1"x2" "stickers" (approx. 40cm apart). Stack boards perpendicular to stickers, leaving 1" gaps between boards for airflow. Alternate stickers and boards. 3️⃣ Apply Pressure: Place heavy plywood on top of the stack and weigh it down (e.g., with concrete blocks) to prevent warping. Important: Never cover with a tarp! 4️⃣Wait & Monitor: Drying time is roughly 1 year per inch of board thickness. Continuously check with your moisture meter until ready. A properly dried piece of wood is the foundation of a stable, long-lasting woodworking project.
