The morning was chaos—I showed up late, hair a mess, shirt wrinkled, and my boss’s glare could have melted steel. In the meeting, I barely listened, fiddling with my phone, missing key points. My coworker shot me a look that screamed, “Grow up!”
Afterward, I felt humiliated and angry—at myself, at the world, at the stupid clock. Why couldn’t I just get it together? My friend pulled me aside, gently asking, “What’s going on? You’re better than this.” That stung, but it made me think. Maybe it was time to actually listen, show up early, and care about more than just myself.
