is my grandma’s garden doomed by wild bamboo? here’s what happened

Last summer, I noticed these tall, sneaky bamboo stalks popping up all over my grandma’s backyard. At first, they looked kind of cool, but then they started crowding out her favorite flowers. I grabbed a shovel and started digging up the roots—those things run deep! I learned you have to get as much of the root system as possible, or they just come back. It took a few weekends, but I made it a fun project with my grandma. We even laid down some thick mulch to keep new shoots from poking through.
