finally visiting machu picchu: was it worth the hype?

Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed about seeing Machu Picchu. You know, those mysterious ruins up in the clouds? After years of saving and planning, I finally made it! finally saw the matterhorn, but was it worth the hype?

I woke up early this morning, bundled up, and set out for a walk in Zermatt, Switzerland. The air was crisp, and the streets were almost empty except for a few other early risers. After about 30 minutes of walking (and honestly, a bit of huffing and puffing up those hills), I finally got my first real look at the Matterhorn. It’s been on my bucket list for years, and I thought I’d be blown away. Don’t get me wrong, the mountain is beautiful—snow-capped, dramatic, and it really does look like those chocolate bar wrappers. But I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d built it up too much in my mind. Maybe I was expecting some kind of life-changing moment, but instead, I just felt...cold and a little underwhelmed. Has anyone else ever felt this way about a famous landmark? Did you ever travel somewhere you’d dreamed about, only to feel a bit let down? Or maybe I just picked the wrong time of day? One place that totally blew my mind was Kyoto, Japan. The cherry blossoms were unreal, and the old temples felt like stepping into another world.
