dreaming of a thunderstorm cabin getaway
Last summer, we spent a week at a cabin that looked perfect in the photos—big porch, deep in the woods, the whole deal. But every night was so quiet, not a single rumble of thunder or flash of lightning. I kept hoping for one of those wild, dramatic storms that make you want to curl up with a book and a mug of tea while the rain hammers the roof. Instead, we just got endless silence and a few mosquitoes for company.
Now I’m wondering: where do people actually go to get that classic thunderstorm-in-the-woods experience? I’ve heard the Pacific Northwest is supposed to be great, but is it really? Or do I need to look somewhere else entirely? And is there a certain time of year when you’re more likely to get those cozy, stormy nights instead of just drizzle or, worse, nothing at all?
Honestly, I’m starting to think those stormy cabin vacations are just something you see in movies. Has anyone actually found a spot where you can count on a good thunderstorm to set the mood? Or am I chasing a fantasy?
