A Trip to Pescadero - Rocky Beaches, Pigeon Point Lighthouse, Goat Dairy Farm

Spent the first day of summer vacation touring Pescadero! For those unfamiliar with the gem, Pescadero is a charming rural town located just south of Half Moon Bay. When you arrive at the intersection of Cabrillo Hwy, Half Moon Bay is northward, while Pescadero lies to the south. Let me summarize some spots to visit, the best route being: San Gregorio State Beach ➡️ Pomponio State Beach ➡️ Pescadero State Beach ➡️ Bean Hollow State Beach ➡️ Pigeon Point Lighthouse ➡️ Harley Farms Goat Dairy ➡️ Arcangeli Grocery Co. 🏁 First Stop: San Gregorio Beach, see photo 1! The winds and waves are strong, and the sand is fine. There's a small mouth of the sea where a small amount of seawater flows, forming a circular stream. Ideal place for kids, and the farther south you go, the fewer the sandy beaches, turning mostly into rocky shores by the lighthouse. 🏁 Second Stop: Pomponio State Beach, see photos 2/3! It's still dominated by sandy beaches, featuring massive protruding rocks, resembling another planet! 🏁 Third Stop: Pescadero State Beach, see photos 4/5/6/7/8! Out of the four beaches, this one offers the most exploration fun! Besides the magnificent beach, there's a Natural Preserve home to plenty of marine life in the rock fissures. Perfect for some hands-on learning for kids! 🏁 Fourth Stop: Bean Hollow State Beach, see photo 9! It's a smaller rocky beach, blooming with colorful plants. Perfect for some romantic and beautiful pictures! 🏁 Fifth Stop: Pigeon Point Lighthouse, see photos 10/11/12! This is the southernmost point of the road trip, featuring a lighthouse that was built in 1872 and still in use until 2023! The old-fashioned, attention-grabbing reflector light covered 20 nautical miles, guiding the path for mariners in the era before electricity. 🏁 Sixth Stop: Harley Farms Goat Dairy, see photos 13/14/15/16/17! Pescadero is surrounded by farms and Harley stands out with its exceptional web marketing. They primarily sell goat milk products like cheese and soaps! #Pescadero #RockyBeaches #PigeonPointLighthouse #GoatDairyFarm #SummerVacation #CaliforniaCoast #StateBeaches #HarleyFarms

Half Moon Bay’s Top Attractions, Activities & Drives!

Half Moon Bay, a delightful town within the Bay Area, offers a variety of attractions, activities, and scenic drives. Whether you're planning a day trip or a weekend getaway, Half Moon Bay has something for everyone. Here's a guide to help you make the most of your visit: 🌟 Why Visit Half Moon Bay? - A charming coastal town with a historic downtown - Known for its agricultural heritage, including Christmas trees, pumpkins, and artichokes - Offers abundant coastal wonders, such as hiking, beachcombing, and the chance to spot migratory marine mammals 💫 How to Beat the Traffic into Half Moon Bay: - Go early to avoid weekend rush hour traffic and secure a good spot on the beach - Stay late to enjoy dinner and the sunset, bypassing the heaviest traffic - Take the scenic routes of Skyline Boulevard, Tunitas Creek, or La Honda Road to experience breathtaking views and avoid congestion ☁️ Weather in Half Moon Bay: - The cool coastal climate results in an average high temperature of around 64°F throughout the year - Be prepared with a sweater and jacket, as fog can roll in at any time of year - Although there can be colder days in winter, mild weather is typical 🌊 Can You Swim in Half Moon Bay? - While surfers brave the cold water wearing wetsuits, swimming is not recommended for non-surfer visitors - The water temperature ranges from 50-60°F, and some beaches have riptides - It's safer to enjoy the water's edge on calm days, but exercise caution and keep an eye on the surf 🍂 Half Moon Bay's Top Attractions, Activities & Drives: 1. Pidgeon Point Lighthouse Pidgeon Point juts out into the pacific on a lovely thumb of land south of Pescadero. The lighthouse has been guiding mariners since 1872 (and some of those prohibition era bootleggers since the 1920’s). The lighthouse is indeed still in use today, although they’ve transitioned from a traditional glass lens to LED lighting. This area is worth visiting not only for the lighthouse, but also for the migratory marine mammals. Seals, sea lions and whales can often be seen passing by. When you visit, bring binoculars and keep your eyes open. 2. Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Patches Starting in September, the whole Coastside turns in to one big fall festival. The attractions include pony rides, corn mazes and lots of pumpkin picking. I’m partial to Andreotti Farms because they carry unusual (and very pretty) pumpkin breeds, but check out our guide to all of the Half Moon Bay pumpkin patches to get the full scoop. 3. Harley Farms Goat Dairy Two words: baby goats. It’s tough trying to decide which is cuter; golden retriever puppies or little baby goats. But when you visit Harley Farms, the voting will definitely tilt toward their adorbs baby goats. Those wobbly legged darlings are just beyond. And so is the Harley Farms cheese. You see, Harley Farms is not a petting zoo, but rather an actual working dairy and they make very tasty goat’s milk cheeses. If you are interested in learning more about their dairy operation, you can schedule a tour. Otherwise, visit any given day between 11am-4pm to ogle the goats and get some cheese. 4. HMB Kayak Rentals & Tours If you are keen to get out onto the water, you can rent kayaks and SUPs from HMB Kayak Company in Princeton Harbor. They rent boats, boards and bikes by the hour and also offer guided kayak tours of the harbor and Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. 5. Stage Road Scenic Drive Stage Road is a winding, seven mile rural drive that meanders between Pescadero and San Gregorio. It’s not the fastest route, but it surely is lovely. You slide past the Mt Hope Cemetery, small farms and eucalyptus groves with soothing pastoral scenery. 6. Tunitas Creek-Purissima Creek Scenic Drive For a slightly longer scenic drive, take the even more meandering route along Tunitas Creek and Purissima Creek roads. It’s a 17 mile jaunt through pastureland and redwood forest. Start at Highway 1 and go northeast on Tunitas Creek Road. at 2.7 miles, turn left onto Lobitos Creek Road. Circle back towards Highway 1 but before reaching it, turn right onto Verde Road. After 3 miles, turn right onto Purissima Creek Road and follow the curve into the hills and then back out again, reaching Half Moon Bay after 7 scenic miles. Bookmark this page for your next visit to Half Moon Bay and explore the mix of nature, agriculture, and history that makes this coastal town so special. ✨ #HalfMoonBay #CaliforniaCoast #Attractions #Activities #ScenicDrives #PumpkinPatches #Lighthouse #GoatDairy #KayakRentals #FarmTour #CoastalWonders

Glass Beach might be the most-searched beach in all of California.

Welcome to Glass Beach, the most-searched beach in all of California! 🌊 Located in Fort Bragg, Glass Beach is renowned for its unique feature - smooth, colorful glass mixed into the pebbly shoreline. Let me take you on a virtual tour of this remarkable coastal treasure. 🚶‍♀️ The History Behind the Beauty: - Glass Beach was once a trash dump, with broken bottles scattered among the garbage. - Over time, the powerful waves transformed the litter into polished sea glass, creating a sight to behold. 🌈 - While it's now illegal to remove glass from the beach, visitors used to collect it, resulting in a depletion of the namesake glass. Macaron-colored Santa Cruz🎠 beachside amusement park in Cali

On the California coast, there's this colorful amusement park ~ it's got macaron-hued tramcars🚡, red, blue and white colored roller coasters, even the beach umbrellas are multi-colored stripes! The whole park is bursting with energy, and its lively colors draw lots of laughter and joy when the summer season hits. As soon as you walk in, you'll spot the classic macaron-colored tram cars🚡. A couple bucks lets you take a ride, and from the top, you get to survey the entire park, or peer over at the beach. If you look closely, you might spot some unusual riders like little yellow and pink ones ~ The park is compact but it's packed with all sorts of rides! Giant swing, U-shaped skateboarding ramp, and several types of roller coasters. If you want to have a go at everything, you could opt for the $69.99 ticket to experience all the rides. You can also recharge your prepaid card, different rides deduct different point amounts. 1🔪 (buck) equals 1 point, $50 gets you 55 points. Entry into the park is free, so you can take a stroll around before deciding on your favorite rides to put your points or tickets on. In the summer, the beach and amusement park draw in crowds, so street parking can get tight. Right next to the park, though, there's a big paid parking lot, charging $30. And with the heat beating down, remember to stay sun-safe and hydrated! 📍Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk 400 Beach St, Santa Cruz, CA #SantaCruzBeachBoardwalk #AmusementPark #MacaronColors #CaliforniaCoast #SummerFun #Beachside #RollerCoasters #FamilyOuting
