Navigating Toxic Relationships and Boundaries While in Recovery ๐Ÿ‘‰ Recovery's a journey, not a destination. As you heal, your circle might shift. We will lose "friends"...we need to surround ourselves with like minded people when we chose ourself over "friends". That is where Stoicism thinking steps in. Stoicism teaches awareness, not bitterness. Let's break it down ๐Ÿ‘‰ 1. They use people, then lose interest... Spotting users: Do they only reach out when they need something? Do they respect your boundaries? Stoicism's got us: focus on what you can control โ€“ your reactions. 2. Accountability's a no-go... People who avoid owning mistakes often shift blame. Observe patterns, don't internalize. 3. Gossip's a red flag... Gossip has no place in recovery! If they talk about others, they'll talk about you. Protect your peace. 4. Power dynamics shift, behavior changes... Watch for those who change masks to fit in or disrespect those below them. 5. Hard times reveal true loyalty... Who's with you in the trenches? Not those who disappear when things get tough. 6. Resentment when you rise... Loyal people lift you up. Others might downplay your progress. 7. Boundaries are made to be tested... Disloyal people test limits. Stoicism teaches: respect boundaries, protect your peace. Not everyone deserves a spot in your inner circle, especially when you're trying to recover and they're bringing you down. Awareness is power. Principal 2: #celebraterecovery #LargeGroup We came to believe... It's not just about wishing for change, it's about confident expectation rooted in God's character and promises. We're talking about a hope that's not based on feelings, but on faith. As it says in Philippians 2:13, "For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose." ๐Ÿ˜We often get stuck thinking we're powerless....but, hope steps in and says, "God's power is greater." It's about believing God exists, we matter to Him, and ๐Ÿ‘‰He has the power to help us recover. Hebrews 11:6 says, "Anyone who comes to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." It's not about checkingโœ“ boxes or following a religion; it's about a personal relationship with Jesus. He's not just a one-time decision; He's hands-on, day-to-day, and moment-to-moment. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." We don't need a mountain of faith; a mustard seed will do. Matthew 17:20 says, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. First Day of #Spring Brings Revival ๐Ÿ’ I want you to know ... Life's detours are pit stops, not permanent. As spring blooms, God's revival awaits! ๐Ÿ‘‰ Scripture says... "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." ~John 10:10 In homeless shelters or life's twists, God's abundance is possible. Detours lead to revival.๐Ÿ”ฅ We must #trust the process... "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." ~Romans 12:2 Trusting God is hard at times...when we can't see the "end of the tunnel". When uncertainty grips us ๐Ÿ‘‰ "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act." ~ Psalms 37:5 "Who to trust, who to talk to...?" I ask. God's process unfolds in uncertainty. We can continue recovery in a Pit Stop! ๐ŸŽ‰I choose to Celebrate Recovery! I can find hope in my brokenness. My hope is in Christ ๐Ÿ™ God's revival meets us in the mess. He does cares ๐Ÿ‘‰ Scripture promises we can.... "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." ~ 1 Peter 5:7 God gathers his people. I have been praying: "Remove those who harm, gather those who heal. As spring blooms, choose revival. Trust the process. God > Our struggles ๐Ÿ™ This morning #joycemeyer reminded me ๐Ÿ‘‰ "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us," Ephesians 3:20 In #CelebrateRecovery, participants work through 8 principles to find healing and restoration. Ephesians 3:20 can be a powerful verse for folks like us in recovery because it highlights God's immense power working within us. We're often stuck in cycles of addiction or pain, but God's power can break those chains. God is beyond our imagination! Recovery can feel impossible, but God can do more than we ask or imagine. The Holy Spirit empowers us to walk through recovery and live freely. God's power is at work within us! In recovery, we often feel powerless, but Ephesians 3:20 reminds us God's got way more power than our struggles. He can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine. In Recovery Programs like Celebrate Recovery or AA, or Never Alone Recovery , NA, Al-Anon , GA, OA, or National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) like me, we can tap into that power! Surrending To God's Purpose Despite the Trauma #Powerless lesson 2 #CelebrateRecovery ๐Ÿ‘‰ "Happy are those who know they are spiritual poor" Matthew 5:3 As humans, we often struggle to make sense of the pain and trauma we face. It can feel like our world is shattered, and we're left to pick up the pieces. But what if those broken pieces are exactly what God wants to use for His glory? Trauma & substance abuse can leave us feeling broken, unworthy, and unsure of our purpose. ๐Ÿ‘‰ But God's love and purpose are not limited by our past or our pain. In fact, He often uses our brokenness to reveal His strength and beauty (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). Surrendering to God's purpose doesn't mean the pain disappears, but it means we trust Him to walk with us through it. It means we offer our broken pieces to Him, asking Him to mend and use them for His glory. #Reminder God is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). ๐Ÿ‘‰He doesn't abandon us in our pain. He can turn our mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11). ๐Ÿ‘‰ His purpose can bring joy and hope. #today 1. Acknowledge the pain...Bring your trauma to God in prayer. 2. Offer it to Him... Ask God to use your brokenness for His purpose. 3. Seek support... Surround yourself with people who point you to God. #Surrendering to God's purpose doesn't mean we've "got it all together." ๐Ÿ‘‰It means we're trusting Him with what we don't understand. "For I know the plans I have for you,โ€ declares the Lord, โ€œplans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11 2.Control: Finding stability in a chaotic world.... "He will keep you in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you." - Isaiah 26:3 3.Connection: Building trust and community.... Ever heard of #psychodrama therapy? It's a form of #therapy that uses action and creativity to explore and heal emotional struggles. By acting out scenarios, participants can gain new insights, process trauma, and develop coping skills. โœ“Role-playing to explore different perspectives โœ“ Using props and space to express emotions โœ“ Focusing on spontaneity and creativity โœ“Building empathy and self-awareness As I'm learning in my psychodrama therapy class, I'm curious to see how this approach can support recovery and growth. I'm intrigued but also have questions. ๐Ÿค” -> How does it ensure safety for clients sharing trauma? -> Can it be adapted for diverse needs and comfort levels? -> What's the role of the Peer Specialist Sober Coach/ Life Coach in guiding the process? โ€œThe Thief vs. The Full Lifeโ€ ๐Ÿ‘‰โ€œThe thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.โ€ John 10:10 NIV Recovery shows us this verse in real time! The thief is addiction, shame, trauma, and old patterns. It steals your time. It kills your hope. It destroys relationships โ€” with yourself, your kids, your God. Jesus came for the opposite....life to the full. Notice it doesnโ€™t say โ€œeasyโ€ or โ€œpeachy keen.โ€ _Full_ means the whole range.... joy, grief, boredom, healing, dishes, belly laughs with your kids, hard conversations, peace that shows up in the middle of chaos. For us adults in recovery ๐Ÿ‘‰ Full life means we donโ€™t have to numb the bad to feel the good. We get to be present. We get to rebuild. We get to say โ€œthe thief had me, but he doesnโ€™t own me.โ€ Us adults have kids we raise, foster or even mentor/ coach, Theyโ€™ve seen the thief too. When we choose full life, we show them itโ€™s possible. โ€œYeah, bedtime is hard and Mom gets overwhelmed. But we donโ€™t quit. We breathe, we pray, we try again.โ€ Thatโ€™s full life in sneakers. How can we practice it today? First. Spot the thief โ€“> Name one thing trying to steal your peace right now. Second. Choose full โ€“> Whatโ€™s one small thing thatโ€™s _life_ today? A hug, a prayer, finishing one task. Third. Tell a child โ€“> โ€œThe thief wants me to give up. Jesus says I can have full life. So Iโ€™m gonna keep going.โ€ Recovery is work. Full life isnโ€™t perfect life. But itโ€™s yours.
