traveling to disney with my daughter, but no letter from her dad
We’ve been planning this big Disney trip for my daughter’s 11th birthday—she’s been counting down the days, and honestly, so have I. But just as I’m sorting out the last details, I stumble across something that’s got me worried: apparently, I’m supposed to have a letter of consent from her biological dad to take her into the US. Here’s the kicker—she hasn’t seen or heard from him since she was three months old, and I have no clue where he is now (last I heard, he was in New Zealand, but who knows).
I’ve actually taken her abroad a few times before and never even thought about this, let alone been asked for any paperwork. Now I’m stressing—what if we get to the airport and they won’t let us board, or worse, we’re stuck at US customs with a devastated birthday girl? I mean, it’s not like I can just call him up and ask for a signature.
Has anyone else tried to enter the US with their child without that letter recently? Did you get grilled at the border, or was it smooth sailing? I’m torn between thinking I’m overreacting and worrying I’m about to ruin her birthday. Why do these rules always pop up right when you think you’ve got everything sorted?
