why are nyc to europe flights so pricey this summer?
I’ve been dreaming about eating real pasta in Rome and wandering the old streets of Barcelona, so I started looking up flights from New York for July. I nearly spilled my coffee when I saw the prices—economy tickets are running between $1,800 and $2,500 round trip! I remember just a few years ago, we could get to Europe for half that price, even in peak season.
I’ve checked all the usual sites, tried flexible dates, even considered flying out of Newark or coming back into JFK, but nothing seems to budge. It’s making me wonder if I’m missing some secret trick or if this is just the new normal. I know summer is always busy, but these prices feel outrageous, especially when you think about how much we still have to spend on hotels and food once we get there.
Have any of you found a way around these sky-high fares lately? Or is everyone else just as frustrated as I am? It’s hard not to feel like we’re being priced out of the adventures we’ve been waiting for, especially after all the travel we missed the last few years. I’m honestly torn between biting the bullet or putting the trip off—what would you do?
