I can't even imagine making the choice Moses' mother made I was reflecting on the families in the Bible and Jochebed's story completely wrecked me. We sing cute children's songs about baby Moses floating in a basket. But the reality? She wove that basket through tears. She placed her newborn son into the crocodile-infested currents of the Nile River because holding onto him meant certain execution. She couldn't protect him anvmore. She had to literally let him go into the dangerous unknown, trusting that God's hands were better than hers Surrendering the people we love to God is terrifying. We want to control outcomes and keep them safe. I was reflecting on the families in the Bible, and Jochebed’s story completely wrecked me. We sing cute children's songs about baby Moses floating in a basket. But the reality? Gideon had an army of 32,000 men to fight a massive enemy. And God said, "You have too many men." God actively stripped his resources down to just 300 guys holding trumpets and clay jars. Why?! So that when the victory happened, they couldn't take the credit. If vou feel severely under-resourced right now, you are actually in the perfect position for a miracle. We hear the story of David and Goliath so much it feels like a fairy tale. But let’s look at the numbers. 1 Samuel 17 says he was "six cubits and a span"—that’s about 9 feet 9 inches tall! His armor alone weighed 125 pounds. His spearhead was 15 pounds of solid iron. David was likely a teenager standing 5 feet tall. When we face "giants" in our week—bills, health issues, family drama—we think they are too big. But David knew that the bigger the giant, the easier the target for God.
