Surprising pompano catches light up Jersey surf
Pompano, a rare catch for northern New Jersey, have been making unexpected appearances in the surf lately—Nick Honachefsky even released three this morning, all caught right in the wash with Fish Bytes. Fluke fishing remains tricky, but the ones landed are solid, with some hitting the 4-pound mark. Meanwhile, Point Pleasant’s Queen Mary is seeing small blues, bonito, and the season’s first little tunny. And for those following fishing records, 13-year-old Jackson Denio of Hampton, NH, is awaiting IGFA confirmation for a junior Atlantic Halibut record at 178.9 lbs! Anyone else noticing unusual catches this summer?
