Get Inspired - Healthy.Insights News - Health Talk Welcome, it’s your favorite storyTelHER with health talk. Today’s story is inspired by the work of Naija Thomas from the School of Applied Computational Sciences at Meharry Medical College, who delves into the complex interplay of social determinants and COVID-19's impact on Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection rates.

This comprehensive two-phase analysis, presented on December 2, 2024, highlights critical aspects of public health:
- The research integrates quantitative methods, specifically using a SEIR (Susceptible, Exposed, Infected, Recovered) model, with qualitative approaches to gain a deeper understanding of HCV infection rates.
- It meticulously examines the interactions between various social determinants and the effects of COVID-19 on HCV outcomes, recognizing that these factors do not exist in isolation.
- A key focus is placed on the entire spectrum of HCV management, including testing, care linkage, the initiation of treatment, and the progression of the disease.
- The study addresses the crucial intersection of infectious disease management and the broader social determinants of health, emphasizing how societal factors influence health outcomes.
- Ultimately, the aim of this research is to inform and strengthen public health strategies, with the goal of reducing existing disparities and improving health outcomes specifically for at-risk populations.

This case underscores the need for continual vigilance in medical settings, as new and potentially dangerous pathogens can emerge unexpectedly. This research emphasizes the importance of preparedness and quick response in dealing with health crises, reinforcing the necessity for robust safety protocols in hospitals.

Today, we’re tackling common health concerns that many face, and how they often lead to negative self-talk. Phrases like, “I’ll never get fit,” or “It’s too late for me,” can sap your motivation and create barriers on your journey to wellness.
Instead of allowing these thoughts to dominate, it's crucial to shift our focus. We can turn these concerns into manageable solutions rather than aiming for unattainable perfection. By examining practical steps to address exercise, nutrition, regular checkups, and stress management, we acknowledge that every small improvement matters.
Let’s explore how reframing negative self-talk can lead to positive outcomes. 1. Exercise - Overcoming Time Constraints
Many people feel they don't have time to exercise. However, incorporating physical activity doesn't necessarily mean lengthy gym sessions. In a world buzzing with activity and distractions, a person stood at a crossroads, surrounded by the echoes of doubt. They listened as friends, family, and even strangers voiced their naysayer sentiments about health. Each phrase felt familiar, tugging at their resolve:
- "It's too late to start now."
- "I feel fine without all that effort."

Health Talk - World Health Organization Releases It’s your favorite storyTelHER with your most discussed about segment..yes! Health Talk with an update on WHO Releases New Guidance on GLP-1 Weight Loss Drugs: What to Know.
The World Health Organization has issued new guidance on the use of popular GLP-1 drugs, like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound, to address the “major global health challenge” of obesity.
A 2024 poll estimated that about 1 in 8 American adults had tried a GLP-1 drug, with the share of prescriptions continuing to rise. Did you try it?! I’ve not at all tell me your personal experience in the comments.
1. Use in Adults:
 - GLP-1s can be used to treat adults with obesity, except for pregnant women.
 - This recommendation is "conditional" due to limited data on long-term impacts, particularly regarding the effects of discontinuation.
2. Comprehensive Approach:
 - GLP-1s are not a cure-all and should be used alongside intensive dietary and exercise changes.
 - “Medicine alone will not solve the problem,” emphasized Dr. Francesca Celletti, WHO senior advisor for obesity.
Important Considerations:
- GLP-1 drugs are administered via weekly injections and work by targeting hormones that affect appetite, promoting feelings of fullness.
- Despite recent price cuts from manufacturers Novo Nordisk (Ozempic and Wegovy) and Eli Lilly (Mounjaro and Zepbound), a monthly dose can still cost hundreds of dollars.
- Users must ensure they get all necessary nutrients while reducing portion sizes, as these medications can lead to loss of muscle mass, highlighting the importance of exercise and strength training.
Societal Impact:
The WHO states that obesity is a problem requiring societal change. We must not neglect what we need to do in prevention," said Dr. Karen Sealey, director of the Healthy Caribbean Coalition and the Inter-American Heart Foundation.
