can i travel for 2 months with a pending l751?
Hey friends, I really need some advice. So here’s the situation: I’ve got my I-751 joint petition pending, and I’m thinking about traveling for two months starting June 1st. My brother is going through a tough time and really needs me back home. The thing is, I didn’t have time to apply for advance parole, and now I’m worried if I’ll get stuck outside the US or mess up my case.
To make things more complicated, I just filed for divorce on April 30th. Once that’s approved, I plan to ask USCIS to switch my case to a divorce waiver. Right now, all I have is my green card extension receipt—no new card yet.
Has anyone actually traveled for a couple of months while their I-751 was pending? Did you get back in okay with just the extension letter? I keep hearing different things from people and online, and honestly, it’s stressing me out. I don’t want to risk everything just to help my family, but I also can’t ignore my brother’s situation.
If you’ve been through this, especially with a divorce in the mix, can you share what happened at the airport? Did you get any trouble from CBP? Or should I just cancel my trip and play it safe? I’d love to hear your real experiences—sometimes it feels like immigration rules are just designed to keep us on edge!
