If your cat is expecting, here’s how to be the best midwife:
📅 Due date: Cats are pregnant for about 63-65 days—mark the calendar!
🏠 Prepare a birthing area: A quiet, warm (86°F), dark spot with a soft blanket or puppy pads in a clean box.
🛠️ Get supplies ready: Scissors, disinfectant, clean towels, a heating pad, and kitten formula—just in case.
🔍 Signs of labor: Restlessness, nesting, loss of appetite, and a temp drop below 100°F. Labor can last 6-12 hours.
⏳ During birth: Kittens arrive every 15-30 minutes. Mom will lick them clean and chew the umbilical cord—let her work!
🍼 After birth: Ensure all kittens nurse within the first hour. Keep the area at 86°F and let mom rest.
