Chris Lyons+FollowFlesh-eating bacteria on the rise in NC watersA simple cut can now lead to serious trouble along North Carolina’s coast, as cases of flesh-eating Vibrio bacteria are climbing fast this summer. With sea temperatures running hotter than usual and heavy rains washing nutrients into the water, experts say Vibrio is showing up in every coastal sample—something unheard of just 20 years ago. Local hospitals are treating more infections, and health officials are urging everyone to be extra cautious, especially if you have open wounds. Have you changed your beach habits because of these warnings? #Health #BodyHealth #NorthCarolina10Share

aguilarallison+FollowMercury threat rising on NC beachesMercury levels in local seafood are spiking—scientists have found that shrimp, oysters, and snails near North Carolina’s beaches now contain up to three times more mercury than usual. The culprit? An invasive algae, Gracilaria vermiculophylla, is spreading fast, choking out native plants and creating low-oxygen zones where toxic mercury compounds thrive. This means our favorite local catches could pose a real health risk if the trend continues. Boat owners are being urged to help stop the spread by cleaning their vessels thoroughly. How concerned are you about mercury in your seafood? #Health #BodyHealth #NorthCarolina00Share
Shelly Powell+FollowHomebuyers in NC left with unfinished dreamsImagine putting your life savings into a custom home, only to end up with two rotting walls and a pile of broken promises. That’s what happened to several families in Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties, where a real estate agent and her husband left entire neighborhoods littered with unfinished houses. After years of complaints, the agent’s license was finally suspended, but many feel the punishment doesn’t match the damage done. This story is a wake-up call: always double-check licenses, read reviews, and get everything in writing before trusting anyone with your home build. Has anyone in our community faced something similar? How did you handle it? #RealEstate #NorthCarolina #Homebuyers00Share
Azuras Wrath+FollowHillsborough apartments.Hillsborough North Carolina update after Tropical Storm Chantal. I live in the second floor of an apartment I am very lucky I do, but for my neighbors on the first floor are dealing with actual sewage problems and the complex will not turn off the water. This is a very unsafe and uninhabitable place for these people. They could get very sick from even breathing in all this sewage in their home. This is going on day two for this problem. We shouldn’t have to live like this when we pay for a habitable home. This is outrageous and down right disgusting. Not to mention we have been without water for two days now in a heat advisory. I myself have been without a/c (something that is advertised on website of apartments) for two weeks. I have serious health issues when it comes to heat and this heat wave isn’t helping on top of not having ac or water now. Pinewood station a place where nothing gets fixed and the residents are living in actual sewage. #Hillsborough #NorthCarolina #UnsafeArea 30Share

Melvin Mosley+FollowDeadly Ants in NC? Here’s the BuzzAsian needle ants are moving into North Carolina, and their sting can be seriously nasty—think needle jab-level pain and, for some, even a dangerous allergic reaction. These sneaky ants love hanging out in mulch, wood piles, and even playgrounds. They look like skinny, black ants with hot dog-shaped butts (seriously). If you spot one, don’t panic, but keep an eye out—especially if you’re gardening or have kids and pets running around! #AsianNeedleAnt #NorthCarolina #PestAlert #Science00Share

This giant is the biggest male great white ever tracked in the Atlantic and is basically the ocean’s ultimate heavyweight. Scientists think he disappeared to feast and fuel up for a 1,000-mile journey north. Imagine swimming with THAT guy lurking nearby! TrendyToucan+Followhow did my backyard explode with color before spring even started?Last week, I walked outside and nearly tripped over a patch of daffodils. In February! I always thought you had to wait for spring, but nope—North Carolina has its own rules. I tossed some bulbs in the ground last fall, barely remembering where, and now they’re showing off like they own the place. Turns out, mixing early bloomers like crocuses and hellebores with your usual suspects keeps the garden lively even when it’s chilly. I water just enough to keep the soil damp and toss a little mulch to keep roots cozy. Every morning, I peek out the window and get a little jolt of happiness from those pops of color. It’s like my yard’s personal cheer squad, months before everyone else joins in. #gardening #northcarolina #flowers00Share
john05+FollowWhite Traffic Lights Are Coming?!North Carolina might be the first state to test a FOUR-color traffic light—yep, adding a white light to the classic red, yellow, and green. The new “white phase” is designed to help autonomous vehicles (AVs) take over at intersections, making traffic smoother for everyone. When the white light’s on, just follow the car in front of you (especially if it’s an AV). Researchers say this could mean way less waiting at lights and even save fuel. Would you trust a white light to guide your drive? #TrafficTech #AutonomousVehicles #Innovation #NorthCarolina #SmartCities #Transportation00Share
