Those days we used to shift gears from the steering wheel 🤔

There was a time when a lot of cars had a manual transmission shifter on the steering column, a setup people called a "three on the tree." The whole point was to get the gear shifter off the floor so you could fit three people comfortably in the front seat. It was a huge deal back then for passenger space. This design was on some cars for decades. Eventually, automatic transmissions became the standard, and the "three on the tree" disappeared. But here is the crazy part. It is making a comeback! A lot of new cars and EVs are putting the shifters back on the steering column for the same reason—to save space. The only difference is they are automatic now. 😂 It's all my fault for being too young, otherwise I would really want to try this kind of car. #Cars #Nostalgia #RetroTech #CarHistory #ManualTransmission #Driving #EVs

The Day My Best Friend Died and My Mom Said I Couldn't Go to the Funeral

I was a kid in the 1960s, and my best friend in first grade was a girl named Robin. She and her brother were the only Black kids in our all-white community, but none of that mattered to us. We were inseparable at school, and I'd come home and talk about her all the time. One day Robin and her brother just didn't show up. That night, my mom was reading the newspaper and mentioned an article about a house fire where a family was lost. It felt like too much of a coincidence, and my worst fears were confirmed when she read Robin's name. I told her I had to go to the funeral, but she told me no. She said I was too young and that Robin was not white. I still remember the shock of her words and the reason I wasn't allowed to go. I just cried and cried. That was 60 years ago, and even now, I still cry sometimes for Robin's death. It’s a moment I've never let go of. #ChildhoodMemories #Nostalgia #LifeLessons #Racism #InnocenceLost #UnforgettableMoments

Am I the only one thinking NASCAR is boring now?

I’ve loved NASCAR for nearly 30 years, and still watch religiously — still the same stat nerd I’ve always been. But lately, man…it’s just felt stale. It’s weird: the racing is somehow both unpredictable and completely predictable. Sure, we don’t always know which team will show up and dominate, but once they do, that’s it. The guy leading by lap 20 will probably be there at lap 200. The rest of the field? It’s like they’re locked into position before they even start. And it’s not just us fans seeing it. The drivers’ pre-race interviews say it all: “Just hoping for a top 15 today.” “Car’s not great, might hang around 12th if we stay clean.” You almost never heard that level of resignation years ago — even mid-pack guys still talked like they had a puncher’s chance. Also, the “dominance” feels different now. I love watching a rocket ship of a car destroy the field — lap the top teams, totally dialed in. But lately? It’s one dominant team, one car inching ahead after each restart, running 5-7 car lengths out front like someone impatient on the freeway. It’s not fun dominance — just…tedious. And don’t even get me started on the coverage. Anyone else noticing this, or am I just finally becoming that jaded old fan yelling at clouds? #NASCAR #sports #Nostalgia
