Family drama over engagement photos—what’s going on? 😩👰🤵
My fiancé and I recently took engagement photos. I wore a slightly fitted white dress, and he wore a brown/white button-up shirt with some buttons undone (I wanted white to match the wedding theme and keep it casual). When I shared the photos with my family, all hell broke loose.
My aunt said the dress was too tight, and my mom complained it wasn’t suitable for the invitations because my great-grandmother would have a heart attack. Meanwhile, my 13-year-old cousin, who’s into photography, was upset for not being invited to shoot the photos. The photographer I chose, my best friend since age 13, was deemed a “total stranger” by my mom.
Even my fiancé’s grandma disapproved of the photo location and texted him, expressing disappointment. Before the engagement, these family members were polite, but now they’re constantly overstepping. We haven’t even started wedding planning yet, and I’m already stressed.
Why does this happen? Any advice on how to handle it?
