Is My Job Safe or Am I Next on the Chopping Block?
Three weeks into my new job in Chicago, and I feel like I’m living in a reality show where the prize is just keeping your desk. In my first week, our Manager was let go after a surprise visit from the District Manager. Week two, a team of specialists almost fired our Project Manager but couldn’t find a reason. By week three, the Assistant Manager was out the door after another surprise visit.
Now, my boss and I are the only full-timers left from the original crew, and both our jobs are being advertised—mine publicly, hers internally. The reasons for the firings? Minor miscommunications and old issues from before anyone here was even hired. Is this just business as usual, or am I next in line?
