At South Africa’s Ado Elephant National Park, game rangers are deeply committed to protecting the elephants under their care. One day, they spotted a newborn elephant trapped in a watering hole, struggling to climb out. Though the herd tried to help by softening the ground and breaking the edge, the baby was too small and weak to escape on its own. The rangers knew they had to step inβ€”but it wouldn’t be easy.
