Just got my license but tired of crowded public spots. Veterans - what's your best advice for approaching private landowners? Feeling nervous about that first conversation!

A 10' concrete stuccoed wall surrounds my 40 square acres and 5 acre bass pond. I don't know any deer specie that can jump that high. Plus, there are eye level " no hunting, no fishing, no trespassing" signs every 200'. That should be enough clues to keep you coming to my gate to ask if you can hunt or fish.ππππ

Like the 1st comment but you can also ask if they hunt. If they do, chances are you will not be given permission. If they are old, offer to share some venison if you get one. Offer to do odd jobs if they need some help. While on a pheasant hunt in Iowa, we stopped in and asked if we could hunt the posted land. A woman came to the door and gave us permission. She said her husband wouldnβt allow it but now heβs passed on.

Just be polite. I've had coffee thrown at me, and I've also had owners make cookies for me who just like company.

just write your phone number on the wall in any men's room and say you're looking for a good time in the woods π

You ring the door bell, introduce yourself, show license and ask permission to hunt.
