Chewed Out for Asking About On-Call Hours in Final Interview! 😳

I just made it to the final round of interviews at a company I was really excited about. In my field, on-call hours can be a nightmare—sometimes it’s a structured schedule, but other times you’re basically glued to your laptop 24/7. So, I always ask about their on-call policy. This time, though, things went south fast. One interviewer got visibly annoyed and spent almost 20 minutes lecturing me about work ethic, saying things like, “You’ll never get anywhere unless you go the extra mile.” All I did was ask, “Do you have an on-call policy?” The rest of the interview was great, but I didn’t get the job. Now I’m honestly worried. Is this question off-limits now? Should I just stop asking and risk getting stuck with 24/7 on-call? How do I find out without raising red flags?
