Genuine question—if you're not keeping the fish, what's the main reason for releasing it? Conservation, sport, or just habit? Curious to hear different perspectives.

There are many benefits aside from actually catching the fish. Being outside, enjoying nature, having alone time. I don’t keep fish because I don’t eat them. I enjoy catch and release for the sport, but love being connected to nature. Beyond that, it’s a mental challenge. I fish exclusively with lures, not live bait. It’s a challenge to find what works for the given circumstances. Can I adapt, based on my knowledge.

Some anglers take what they need . Some anglers are conservationists. And some anglers ruin it for everyone else .

I release bass fun to catch. Freezer full of catfish so I'm releasing them also now. Quit drinking and fishing actually helps me not think about it so fish daily. I live at the lake. Just wanna catch a monster 😆

I catch enough for a few nice meals
We.always make a great dinner the first night and munch on leftovers the next day
1 bag makes the freezer .
Never keep the big one

Fishing is for fun and time in nature. Putting the fish back ensures fish in the future

I only keep fish I am going to eat but I love fishing so I use smooth hooks barbless so remover is easier and less painful I have caught many of the same fish year after year in the same hole that I caught them before and on the same bait fishing is relaxing and calming I prefer to fish alone to much because I don't drink and I don't smoke and people I would fish with do that crap and I prefer to travel deep in the backwood creeks where the wild fish are especially wild Brook trout yummy

I keep Striper bass and crappie to eat. I haven’t kept a bass in many years. I love to catch bass. Weigh them if they are big enough and take a photo. The reason I release them is I want them to grow and give someone else the pleasure of catching one of these beautiful creatures.
