We wear it in Wyoming, but the locals don't wear it hunting, or even when in areas where hunters are present. In Wisconsin people walking thier dogs on roads wear orange during rifle season

Years ago I was hunting there was a valley with a meadow and a small pond. The other side was a steep ridge that was covered with brush and a game trail through it. I sat under a tree to watch the trail. Later a brown spot was moving through the brush. When it broke out at the meadow it was a hunter in a brown coat. He seen me and came over. I told him he was lucky that I didn't shoot at brown patches in brush. He went pale and said he had a orange vest in his camper and thanked me for not shooting him and left to get it.

It saved a lot hunters from being gutted and driven home tied to the hood of a car.🙏
