That winchester almost cost me my season 💔

Still thinking about last year's disaster. Final day, perfect doe at 25 yards, and my "reliable" used Winchester gave me nothing but a click. Light primer strike - probably should've tested that firing pin spring in cold weather first. Walked out empty-handed while replaying that moment over and over. Taught me never to trust used gear without putting it through hell first. Anyone else had their rifle betray them at the worst possible moment? #hunting #huntingfails #winchester #huntinggear

Don't blame the gear! When hunting in cold weather, you should always remove and degrease the firing pin before going out into the cold, so it doesn't stick! I thought this was common knowledge, and removing the firing pin of a Mod 70 Winchester rifle is about as easy as it gets! Hunt smart! Use graphite lube for your firing pin in the winter if you must, but NOT gun oil!😎

A used gun is sold for a reason as a major dealer retired we cleaned & test fired all used guns. Often the gun was unused for years and all dried out grease etc. some abused needed repair. Sold over 5,000 none ever failed buyers.

oh yeah, I have a Marlin lever action that misfired on a nice buck,fortunately I was able to lever another round in and shot him low hind quarter and exited his chest it's a model 336SC .35cal.

Not a bad idea. My old model 70 worked fine but I removed firing pin for inspection after I had same misfire problems with a Ruger M77. I found a broken firing pin spring on my Win Model 70. Good to inspect on all rifles

Heavy oil should be removed and lighter oil applied before the hunt. Heavy oil can adversely affect function in cold weather.

for all you hunter if you want great advise ..clean your gun after each firing ...Marine corps way.. gun needs cleaned 3 to 4 times before next useage.. when a white rag is still white after cleaning the gun is clean then lightly oil. heavy oiling is only used when storing for long periods of time.. only.. and buy good brand of ammo... most people just load and shot..and reload and shoot... a dirty gun will cause problems 9 out of 10 times. if you don't take care of your weapon ..they will misfire and back fire...and even blow up in your face.. be a responsible gun owner. keep your gun cleaned lightly oiled and locked up when not in use
