I used to beat it with warp zones in 5-7 minutes or so. Warpless, would take 15-20 minutes with near perfect run through of all levels. Trick is to memorize each level and remember when and how to jump for most efficient runs through a level. Sometimes it's just luck on your side to avoid falling in the hole or jumping into a fireball, flower, etc.

when j used to play this j could beat the whole game with little Mario and never let off the B button .. use the warps of course. but beat it almost every day I played it. with one little Mario..

for those wondering, what they mean by solved is getting the literal fastest time possible using the original hardware and cartridge. the timing is as precise as to the thousandth of a second..I bet AI will be the first to do it (or confirm it)
